Thread: Global Utility input setting for 4 cable input

  1. Default Global Utility input setting for 4 cable input

Hello...I am new to the forum. I just picked up a used mint condition GT-5 at GC for only $88! This may be my bargain purchase of a lifetime! Anyhow... I was wondering what the input option I should use from the global utility menu when running the 4 cable hookup into a combo amp. As you recall, the 4 cable hookup involves inputting the GT-5 BOTH into the front of the amp and through the effects loop. However, the global utility funcion only only gives the option of input through the power amp or input through the front of the amp. There is no, "Both" option, so which of the available options works best? Thanks for your help!

If you have a manual, the 4cm is depicted on page 11.

4cm will still work regardless of the global utility setting. I assume the different options make slight eq adjustments. They don't seem to make much difference to my ears.

If you have the GT-5 preamp and speaker sim OFF like you would mostly with the 4CM, then the output type makes no difference.

If you do happen to use the gt5's preamp instead of the combo's (by turning off the loop), then it would be the same as just outputing the gt5 into a power amp/speaker. So I guess the proper global output option would be power amp.

Thanx DeRigueur, that's what I thought.

  6. Default GX-700

    Hi,

I would like to know if the FCM (4 cable method) works in GX-700, and if yes, how can I set it?

    Thanks,

The primary benefit of 4cm is the ability to put an external preamp into the appropirate place in the processor's fx chain -- so you can put wah and compressor before the preamp and chorus, delay, reverb, etc after. The gt5 has an fx loop and also a user programable fx chain, so it can work with 4cm. The question is does the gx700 have an effects loop and a programmable fx chain. I don't have one, so I don't know -- but those 2 things are what's needed.
