Thread: 4CM and effect chain question

  1. Default 4CM and effect chain question

    Hello,

I would just like to know how the effect chain is working when the loop is switched on and I go to my Amp PreAmp->Amp
Does all the effect added "in serial" before the preamp stage of my Amp or is it possible to have some of them before the preamp and some others in my amp's loop?

I hope my question is clear enough.
    Thanks for your help

    Eric

    Eric,

If you use 4CM so when you activate the Loop, your amp's pre-amp will be in the effects chain of GT8, and your amp's pre-amp is indicated as " LP " ( Loop ) in the effects chain. So it is easy now, you can put any effects before or after the " LP " which is your amp's pre-amp as you would like to. And the good thing is, in the Loop mode, you can choose these effects to be connected with your amp in serial or direct mix mode, this option is in the Loop menu, just pick the one you like. I do it with my rig and get a good result effects sounding.

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks a lot mesamagic,

I totally missed the fact that the Loop itself is part of the effect chain...
Well now it's obvious my question was a little bit stupid

    Thanks again

The GT* themself are "magic" boxes that so many complicated things were thrown in by Boss's engineers team ( all talent guys I believe ), especially if you've just played around with it in a short time, so it's easy to miss somethings at first :P

That's why we are here to talk about them

And I'm enjoying my little black animal so much . . .

By the way...do you know a good resource on the internet explaining Fx chain and the various possibilities with pros and cons how to connect Fxs in the chain with possibly some examples...

I now that basically Comp, OD/Dist and Wah should stax before the preamp and modulation effects in the loop but I'd like more detailed explanation on that...

One last think, can you explain me a little bit more the connection in serial vs Direct mix mode?

    Thanks a lot
    Eric

You can find tons of useful info about effects/amps tone here, let's go and figure out :

    http://www.amptone.com/#fxloop

This website takes me weeks to go through, and I still drop by now and then, so much to learn, so little time . . .

    Cheers
