Thread: Patch Names - The Original Tones

  1. Default Patch Names - The Original Tones

Have you ever wondered what a patch name refers to? Sometimes its very obvious (e.g. Erupting - EVH Eruption), other times its completely cryptic, or a reference to some band/guitarist you've never heard of. Apparently this cryptology is to avoid copyright or trademark infringment. Line6 will go straight ahead and say "The U2 Edge Sound" -- Boss go for the more obscure "Irish Delay".

I have made a list of all the GT-10 cryptic patch names, and where possible put a proper translation/description. Will you guys help fill in the blanks (TBC). Cheers, TT

First off I want to say that not every patch is based on a certain band or artist. Here are some I can help on:

Sedated Punk- The Ramones (I Wanna Be Sedated)
    Dirty Ska- Any ska music
Mister Foo- IS The Foo Fighters
    Rocking Man-Rush
Dovers Cliffs-Eric Johnson (Cliffs of Dover)*do you live in a box? just kidding
Dime Floods-NOT Dimebag just a clean patch
LA Rap Metal-Limp Biskit or Beastie Boys
    Craftworks- Just a synth patch

Did you not get the preset list with your manual? There was a 4 page list with mine that described each patch quite well.

Try this link and you can download a .pdf file of the whole list.

That list is useful, but it doesn't refer to specific artists as the patch names are clearly alluding to.

Here are some of my thoughts:

DEVIL BOYS - first thought was Motley Crue from Shout At The Devil days

HECKA-CASTERS - I'd bet this is supposed to emulate The Hellecasters (check 'em out!)

FUNKY BILLIE J - Billie Jean by Michael Jackson?

    Hi.

White Friday, for me sounds like a joke with Black Sabbath. I don't Know, I didn't hear it yet. What do you think ? Is it a distorted patch a la Toni Iommi ?
