jus got my gt6 a week ago and love it...i wanna start recording and here are my questions...
1)what are the various cables i will need?
2)can i record using only a edirol usb to midi cable?
3)what good sfotwares are out there to record with?
4)what sorta soundcard do i need.. i currently have a really cheap ass one that i have connected to my hi-fi system for all sounds from the pc
(pls sujjest something affordable)
5) will i need my crate amp while recording or shall i jus directly plug the 6 onto the pc and let the preamp sims work the sound..and to hear it ill use my hi-fi systems speakers as ...well ....speakers/monitors

any other sujjestions are more then welcome

Hi there...

1)what are the various cables i will need? Regular instrument cables, and some adapters or a digital coaxial cable if you want to use de digital out of the GT6. By the way, you must have a sound card with digital port input to use the digital out.

2)can i record using only a edirol usb to midi cable? The midi ports of the GT6 can be use to transfer patches and to "comunicate" with other devices that use midi... if you want to record audio use the audio outputs of the GT6 (plug 1/4) or digital out.

3)what good softwares are out there to record with? Well, this is too hard to comment in a few lines, since there is a lot of options in the market. I use Cubase SX, but other forum users record on Audition, Sonar, etc...

4)what sorta soundcard do i need.. i currently have a really cheap ass one that i have connected to my hi-fi system for all sounds from the pc

In this days all the audio cards brings some software, so it´s a good point to start knowing the basics of PC recording, and then consider a more complex recording software.

It´s a good option if you don´t have a mixer, a good mic and a "silent space".
