I was playing around with my rythm tone and discovered that I can go from 10-0 on the guitars volume and all it does is lessen the gain....

In terms of user friendliness I think the HD is on a par with the GT100. In terms of sounds I think they both sound stellar for the price.

I used the gt 10 in 4cm with mesa mk4 and a mesa rectoverb and I don't recall any tone suck and certainly no muddyness. After reaching unity gain everything was sweet and beautiful :)

But the funny thing is, people are willing to spend thousands to enhance their amps tone but if an all in one unit isn't perfect out of the box it is branded useless or inferiour at best.
