I actually got it this wednesday so i have had a chance to try it out and tweak some and ive got to say its an awesome tool with many many mindblowing possibilities.

I didnt expect i would like the preamp so much that im actually thinking of using it for my main or possibly only preamp, but i actually do although i havent tweaked it to its fullest.

My intention from the beginning was to use the GT-Pro for effects only, but the cleans at least are certainly fantastic and the distorted are getting there, distorted sounds are allways much more difficult to tweak.

I use it into the return of my JCM 800 head which works nicely, that way it connects straight into the poweramp without any of the controls in between, even the master volume on the JCM is bypassed.

This may not be a unit for those that dont like to tweak for hours though since most of the preset patches are not really that useful without a bit of tweaking and to get the optimal sound out of it takes quite a lot of work ,the pc editor helps though and also that there are quite many buttons on the unit.

Im very satisfied so far.

Congratulations Evilution! Welcome to the Gt-Pro. :D

I'm not using a guitar amp or pre-amp. I run my Gt-Pro through a Roland KC-350 keyboard amp and direct to mixer/PA, so I take 100% profit of the COSM simulators. The sound is great: clean sounds are very "clean" and the distorted pathches sound very powerful.

Manuel

Thanx Manuel

I have actually been thinking of going the route of a full range amp/cab and PA to optimize the performance and to maybe be able to get something smaller instead of hauling this halfstack and the GT-Pro also,i mean the amp head is about 20kg and the cab 40kg.

Im thinking of some powered monitor more or less just for monitoring purposes and then going straight into the PA with the subout at gigs, that should be alot smaller and lighter especially since im probably not gonna bother with stereo sound since we are a two guitar band,it would just mess upp the sound.

Both of us guitarplayers in the band got the GT-Pro at the same time ,and both of us like it alot.

Best regards

/Stefan

I think certainly the editor simplifies thing a lot (i also use an editor for the midi pedal ),the USB for the ability to reamp tracks via the USB, i didnt like the idea to crawl on the floor editing the GT8 either, and i really want to use a midi foot controller to have direct acess to a bigger number of sounds whitout switching banks and i already had the controller since before.

I guess you could control the GT8 with a midi foot controller aswell and im sure the GT8 is a better value ,but i wanted the Pro,i never even tried the GT8 or the Pro out before buying.

My experience with Boss has allways been VERY good and my VF-1 that i still have sound fantastic,it has many similarities with the Pro actually,i also heard som exellent recordings made with the GT8/Pro.

I wasnt originally planning on using it as a preamp though,i even bought an Marshall JMP-1 to use as a preamp before i even got the Pro ,but i havent used it yet at least,so the Pro certainly can make som "noise " and you have much better control using the Pro´s preamp.

You can do some serious "damage" with this machine.

Adding to Evilution's comments, an advantage of the Pro is that you can build it in a sturdy flightcase and put it behind you on stage, away from all the drunken raving madmen (and women). Can be nice in some situations. I'd rather have them destroying my Behringer controller than my GT.

The built-in DI option through the XLRs isn't hurting either. Although I don't use direct out when I can avoid it.

All in all, I am extremely happy with the Pro as a replacement for my GX-700.

I forgot to mention that Petracci, and that is actually a very important reason,i mean if you have a unit that is vital to your sound you dont want to have some loser spilling it full of beer (that could easily happen to) ,the effectunit/preamp might be hard to find used if,it has gone out of production for example.

Midi pedals are easy to replace since they dont affect the sound.

The same here: the GT-Pro is not only succesfully replacing the GX-700 but the Marshall JMP-1.

About the drunken crew, I've got a Roland VG-8 on the floor but I've made a sturdy case to protect it. The VG-8 is a step-proof tank box. You can even step over the buttons and the display since It's not as delicate as the GT-8.
