....well, final at least for me.....

We've heard the sound-clips and the complaints about the 8 sounding worse than the Pro. And yes, I did sorta hear what they were talking about.....

This past weekend I got together with a guitarist who has an 8. I just wanted to try a quick "sniff-test", so we just chose a preset patch -- 5150 Lead -- and he started wailing on his 8. Next, we just unplugged his guitar -- and the output cable running to my tech21 PowerEngine60 amp -- and tried it on the Pro.

I couldn't tell any difference when he was soloing. There seemed to be some minor differences in the low-end during power chords, but I didn't hear anything resembling the sorta harshness and MP3-style compression artifacts we've heard mentioned.....

The point of this? Well, I wanted to try the two side-by-side, and finally got the chance. If I'd heard anything significant, I would've recorded clips on the laptop and so forth, but it seemed close enough that I thought it was more productive to focus on making music. It doesn't explain the differences we've seen reported, but it's no longer lurking in the back of my mind.... I'm not claiming this was scientific, but I didn't hear anything that warranted scientific analysis.

(We did later discover his guitar input was set to +6dB, whereas mine was set to 0dB. Surprising, sure, but I don't care whether it means anything in our comparison....)

Who needs scientifics? They don't use to have good musical hearing

Thanks for your report, aerial

Ok, there're exceptions like Einstein (he played violin and studied music) but he was more like a kind of philosofist with a big human side

"He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder." (Albert Einsten)
