Okay - I have been asked several times about the metal case I use to house my GT8. I mentioned it a few months ago, but searches aren't turning it up. So here's the scoop on this wonderful little case...

It is a great, sturdy, lightweight, metal (aluminum alloy?) case. It holds the GT8 and power supply just fine. It has a little room to hold cables and or thin items that would lay on top of the GT8. It is padded inside and comes with velcro if you want to keep things in place. The top comes off so you can just come in, lay the case down, pop the top, plug in and go.

I love it. Maybe you will too. ;)

It is available at: RONDO MUSIC (http://www.rondomusic.net/pdc410d.html) for $35.

Here is a pic of the GT8 in the case...

Hope that helps you guys!

Is there room in the back to plug in cables -- do you need right angle plugs?

which model is it exactly?

The link should take you right to the correct model - CNB PDC-410D Pedal Case-Medium.

There is a enough room to run standard straight instrument cables out the back (as in pic - if you can see them).

i've got a warwick one very similar, but bigger so i have my AB box on it too which splits the stereo signal from my guitar to Ghost Piezzos and normal tele pickups. It came with Velco stuff for the back so my GT8 is stuck fast in place, i had to take the rubber feet off though.

I found a great thing to carry the 8 in that's really cheap to buy.If you get a hold of one of those travel bags that people use and a couple of pieces of foam it fits like a glove and will hold all your chords guitar stands etc. Any place like walmart will carry both things. It cost me about 38 bucks in Canadian funds to get everything. The bag is the kind with wheels on one end and a handle that extends out the other. You've seen thousands of them in airports and train stations etc. Just make sure you get the right size(I took a tape measure with me when I went looking for one). I stuck foam under the 8 and over it. Then the knobs on the 8 are really well protected. I used 1 inch foam.
You should be able to get it anywhere in the world too that has an airport in the country. So unless you're living on a desert island you should be able to get one cheap.

I bought one of those carry-on type bags for my GT-5 seven years ago. It can hold all your gigging necessities.

Works pretty well for general travel, too.

Coincidentally, I, too, took a tape measure with me when I went shopping.

Thats where I got my case too. I got the bigger case. Theres enough room for an extra wah pedal or 2 of the sub expression pedals from Boss. I'm very happy with it.

Tape measure? No, take the GT8 with you...good luggage stores won't mind you trying to fit all your gear in to make sure you like the bag/case you end up with...

I just got my case today. That was fast! I ordered it on Tuesday and here it is on Friday! Anyway, it looks pretty sturdy, and I am surprised at how light it is. Now I'm just waiting on my Quik-Lok amp stand to arrive. 8)

hey,
thanks for the tip on the case.

it's hard to see in that pic, but is the lid (the part the gt8 sits on) shallow enough that it doesn't rise above the foot switches on the gt8 and interfere with stepping on them in a live situation?

and also, it doesn't look like there's enough room around the gt8 to put the power supply in there — where exactly does it go?

and is the top part of the case padded with foam?

thanks

I use something similar imported by AMS (located in Melbourne Australia.) Cannot remember the brand, but I bought it through Engadine Music in Sydney, where I work on Fridays. If anyone is interested in one we can post around the world, though I will wanr you that postage is expensive from Oz.
Mine is a little larger than the GT8, so I took some foam to pad it out.

For anyone interested, I've just built a full flight case for my GT-8 which includes space for the AC block to be fitted with velcro tape and allows the unit itself to be fixed in permanently (so no movement whatsoever). The box is fully foam lined and uses 2 x mini butterfly catches and two interlock hinges.

The original idea was to publicise and market this, but after spending three days making the prototype, I'm thinking that the costs will be too much for me to compete with the cases mentioned above.

However, if there is any interest for a hand-crafted flightcase for GT-8 (or other GT-x pedals), let me know!!!

Cheers

Island Cases is running a special through ebay right now. You can get any size pedal board/flight case that they offer through that auction (it runs from 20"x12" up to 20"x40") for $79. I just ordered a 40"x20"...need extra space for a morley wah, ts-9 and fs-6...and to keep the AC away from the signal lines.

Also, I checked out some of the cheap aluminum cases. They dent very easily and seems like they would have a tendency to fold in the middle if you don't add extra feet in the middle of the board.

Hey Kewlpack,

Thanks for the recomendation. I bought that case this weekend. It works great! Can't beat the price at $34.95. ($37.00 out the door. I live in NJ so I had to pay the Governor 6%.)

Thanks again.

Grats. This case works for every MFX I've had except the TLSE (which is TOO big IMHO - but it does have its own gig bag)...

It looks like from your pic that with the GT-8 all the way forward that the jacks in the back are still resting on the back edge of case.

I wonder if the large size case would be a little better to give room for jacks to clear? It would be 5-7/16" margin to work with (instead of the 1-7/16" of the medium case).

Also, with the depth of the bottom of case being 3" it seems as though the pedal switches in the front of the GT-8 would be a little down in the case (meaning you have to clear the front edge of case with foot). Have you noticed that being an issue ?

The case seems awesome for protection. I just ask these questions with reguard to leaving the GT-8 in case when performing.

Thoughts ?

Yeah, if you have longer 1/4" plugs it might be a problem. It wasn't an issue for me except on the GNX3K - the jacks are mounted very close to the floor.

The 3" part is actually the TOP of the case (I mount to the shallow side of the case). The bottom part of the case is pretty thin and has never been an issue.

In hindsight, the larger case would probably be best so you have more room for powerbar, cables, etc. Still the medium case works great overall. You can't lose with either case.

It fits nice and snug behind the GT8.

Did you velcro your GT-8 to the inside case ? If not, does the GT-8 fit snug when case it closed or does it shift around a bit ?

I tried the velcro, but really, everything fits snugly with the power supply behind the GT8. I would usually put a power strip back there too... then cables on top of GT8. For the way I pack and go, velcro is kind of overkill.

But the case ships with a long strip of velcro if you want to cut it up and use it.

I know it's probably been a while since you ordered your case...

I am thinking on getting one of the hard cases myself. The shipping charge is $14.20 for UPS ground. Do you remember your shipping being that high ?

Just wondering

Another thing I was wondering is:
if you have your GT-8 sitting on the shallow side of the case does the "give" of the foam padding feel too spongy when you step on your pedals ?

thx

Tristram

Ah - it's been three years since I got my case (still holding up great too!)... I don't remember what the shipping was, sorry.

The thin foam lining has never been an issue when tappin' on pedals or the wah. Not at all. On a thick carpeted floor (which would be problematic for the Wah trigger anyway), it could mean having to step a little harder than normal.

Other than that, no real issues.

I think I need to get one now ...

I got the bigger one. It's a good case for sure.
The main issue I do have with it though is that the GT-8 sits down in the lid a little deeper than I would like. I may put something under the GT-8 or under the lid padding to make a little more flush with the lid edge.

But overall I do like it. It is very protective (being metal) and I can cram a bunch of stuff in there.

Thanks again KP for the tip.

Yep yep. I'm surprised there aren't more manufacturers with other options like these cases. Seems like tons of people would need one!

I`m a new member to the site so apologies if I`ve bought an old thread up, having recently purched a GT 8, I was looking for a hard aluminum case and managed to pick up a Warwick Rockcase, not cheap at £70, but it amply fits the GT 8 with jacks attached, room for the transformer and leads, it has 4 butterfly clips which remove the top section of the case, the GT 8 is velcrowed to the bottom section which remains fixed to the unit on stage, very quick to set up and pack away and offers much better protection for travelling than the bags
