I know it's not exactly the GT-Pro software, but if you go to bosscorp.co.jp and go to the GS-10 page, you can download the GS-10 editor. It seems to be quite similar to the GT-Pro software (If you compare the screenshots), it may just keep us from going insane until we get our shipments!

Maybe someone with the GT-PRO software will be willing to share it so use GT-8 users can try to make it work with our 8's.

I disagree: Anyone who wants the Pro software, buy the Pro.

I don't. What happens then Aerial if you loose your CD, and your PC gets damaged? If you don't want Boss to make a download available, this is exactly what will happen.

And on another note, I have a GT-Pro bought, I won't get it for another month or two, so why shouldn't I be able to learn all I can about it through the software and manual to ease my transition time to a new unit? It's only fair, and right.

(Um, let me tell you about my 4-tier backup strategy..... Once lost some digital vacation photos to a hard-drive failure. Never again!)

Look, I understand, but I also don't. Why did you pay double the price of an 8 for the Pro, if not one of the reasons was the software? And why would the 8 community even want the Pro's software given the great work being done to build free editors?

That's just where we are right now. I do agree the best outcome would be for Boss to make the editor available for the 8, just so everyone could "standardize" on that. But we can't lose sight of the difference between what we think is right and what Boss -- who owns the editor -- thinks is right.

For whatever reason, Boss APPEARS to be doing nothing about this, despite the software having a very modular architecture and the 8 being so similar to the Pro. And despite the outcry in the 8 forum earlier this year.

There could be any number of factors gating or even preventing this:
1) They're working on it, but won't say anything until its done.
2) They're struggling with patch portability between the 8 and the Pro.
3) They can't figure out whether / how much to charge 8 owners for it.
4) Marketing has told them not to do it.
5) Technical issues (e.g., perhaps the editor only works with MIDI-over-USB for some weird reason, such as #4 above)
6) They have limited resources focused on other things at the moment -- they'll get to it when they can or have to.

Aerial, I'm not sure what your deal is but your refusal to post the GT-Pro software because if we wanted it we should by the Pro is rather childish. There are no secrets on this forum. I'm sure that someone will post it soon enough. Mr Sleepy, I think, asked you, or anyone else, to post the software so he could determine whether it was possible to port the Gt-Pro software to the 8. Fredo thinks it can be. Your lame refusal only hurts the GT-8 community and builds distrust. So I hope the next time YOU ask for help everyone on this board flat out refuses.

Thanks -- let me make sure I get your point: Respecting other people's (intellectual) property is "childish", right? And not giving away other people's stuff is tantamount to keeping "secrets", right? It "builds distrust", right -- is that what you're saying?

I've given fredo all the info he needs -- I've been and will continue to be as helpful as I can be short of giving away stuff that doesn't belong to me.

Also, I've enumerated the reasons why I think a port ISN'T possible -- nobody's refuted those reason yet. But, then, having built my own custom editor for the Boss GX-700 probly doesn't give me any credibility, since I "childishly" kept it to myself.

Nope ...never asked....I've also never asked Fredo for any of the information that Aerial7 sent to him either.
But when I need the data I will contact Boss.

Boss obviously have a reason for their actions..
But I dont think trying to corrupt Aerial7 is the answer.
