....A friend who has the 8 came over today to make some noise. Here's a few impressions.....
First, the 8 is much nicer in person -- it doesn't seem as big as I'd thought. Seems well-constructed. Not that I've changed my preference for rackmounts; I'm just saying I liked the form-factor better than I thought I would. I did make me appreciate just how much flexibility I'll get from all the pedals on the FC-200.
Sounded good, esp. compared to my recently departed GX-700.
Only oddity I noticed was the tuner: It seemed to lag sometimes, not consistently, but definitely didn't seem to track the way the -700's tuner did.
Overall impression of the presets: Clean sounds sounded pretty darn good; patches seemed generally built more for show than for actual use -- i.e., demo the capabilities; the dirty stuff seemed to feature a bit too much 'verb. Just my crude initial impressions.....
One nice surprise was my Taylor 314 run thru some Acoustic Sim preset (which was changed to match the piezo pickup on the Taylor): This sounded really good thru the computer speakers....
Now I realize we forgot to try the 8 direct into the PowerEngine 60. We'll have to do it again!
