Hi folks!

I'm a newbie looking for information on the GT Pro. Some background info and a couple of questions follow?

I'm an older guy that has played guitar primarily as an at home hobbiest and have just started playing out last year. I have begun purchasing some quality equipment, concentrating in live solo performance, acoustic guitar and some vocals. I am looking at the GT Pro since it is the newest model out that appears to be comprehensive in features; although, it is pricy. What I want to accomplish is to have the ability to preprogram effects that maximize audience perception of aural pleasure and stun them with high fidelity sound and effects. Please realize that I have only been able to fiddle around with a few of the multi-effect processors in stores and realy don't have any idea of the limits of the GT Pro, even when I look through the manual that is online.

Some Questions:

1) Does the GT Pro have a midi input that I can connect a midi clock in to control the candence of some of the effects...such as an auto-pan. I would like to be able to clock the auto pan in sequence with a small ear bud that is carrying the clock tick to my ear. OR maybe the GT Pro has a clocked auto pan that can be programmed and I can then switch to a particular patch, but begin playing according to an earbud carrying a metronome signal. I have a few particular pieces that sound so much better when I'm listening to a clock...e.g. a waltz beat. If I can accomplish great stereo panned effects through my tri-amped system this year, I'm hoping to move on to Quad and/or Surround type effects that overwhelm the audience with controlled sound, again projected by a tri-amped system.

2) I've read a couple of the comments about the GT Pro here on GT Central and wonder if the Pro is really the right comprehensive effect unit for me. It seems to be the newest. Any comments on whether or not this unit is really providing overall capabilities above and beyond that of other units or combinations of units?

Respectfully,

1) According to the manual on Page 74, you can sync to a MIDI clock but I have no experience with this, so not sure how well it works. Since the GT-8 is esentially very similar without the "pro" features or "pro" pricetag and has the same feature, maybe you can post in that section to get feedback on it.

2) Only you can really answer that one. To me, I seriously wanted the rack configuration. Not 100% sure I will even fully utilize the "pro" features of the GT-Pro except for the software, but I like having the option if I do. Is the rack configuration and few added features worth nearly double the price of the GT-8? For me, the answer is yes. But that is just a matter of priorities. I have been using the GT-3 for several years now and love it, minus the distortions (though they sound wayyyy better through my Mesa Boogie 50/50!!!). But I was finally able to get a sound I was happy with. I am very anxious to upgrade to the Pro.

I highly recommend the GT line just for the customization and plethora of features alone. I think it is quite possible to get virtually any sound you want out of these units. It is just a matter of how much "work" you want to do the get that sound. I like tinkering and having just about every option I can imagine in the GT units, not to mention the real-timecontrol over effects settings!! I looked with interest at the Line6 a while back, but quickly out-ruled them due to the lack of real-time effect control that the GT line offers. By far my favorite feature!
