What exactly is a patch for these units? Is it something a person would make to autosetup the processor to clone the sound and effects of your favourite guitar hero?

A patch is a sound that is stored on your multifx unit.

Eg. The gt-6 has 140 user patches.

This means that you can create 140 of your own patches.

Eg. Pre amp- distortion-chorus-delay-wah and then save into patch 1-1

a downloadable patch is a patch that you download to your computer and then using software, you can transfer that to your multi fx unit.
