Well it seems Boss is releasing the GT-8 in a Rackmount version GT-8 Pro, which will come with a usb port, and you can use the GT-editor with it just like the GS-10. Also with the Rackmount version you can create up to three external effect chains, and configure your pre-amp through two amps, in one word amazing. It looks like the GT-8 Pro is the way to go for live playing and recording, you have the best of both worlds, and configurations galore.
Of couse more money will be involved for the floor board and CTRL pedal, but you can use your hands and a control pedal until its time to play out. Boss has finally made one of the most professional boxes out there, its about time.

This looks like an absolutely kick ass piece of gear! A floorboard with two expression pedals and a display would be awesome.

I wonder when they will release that!
It is not even in Japan yet.

What a shocking news!
What I much concern is the price of this rack...

Just talked to Jeff Rodgers at Sweetwater. The price for the GT-Pro is about $850.
No word on when it will be available, though. And I am not sure if that is just MSRP or what.
Guess I may need to cool my jets a bit before I bite off on one of these. I figured it'd be more, but didn't expect that much more since I will need to buy a midi foot controller with it.

The Pro looks great but the -8 still has twice the amount of control knobs.
I like having the delay/Rev and OD/Dist controls up front.
I think I would miss that as I grab for them on sessions all the time.
Soniicly I bet they are very close if not the same.
All and all it is great to see Roland/Boss moving ahead.

Anybody here thinks a GT-Pro is much better than two GT-8??

For Gods sake roland, put a USB port on the floor board, it would increase the usability of the thing 10 fold (well it would for me being midi intollerant;))
The decision they made is so commerical... :(

It is an interesting way to separate/make distinct the two products - one little USB port. But I don't see that big a deal. Softward can be run through Midi In/Out and digital sound output is available through the SPDIF Output . There is no lick trainer or anything like that would require sound through USB so
what's the big deal?
It is a shame though if no improvement was made to the original amp sims though. That almost makes no sense.

The rack mount has THREE fx loops.
On top of that they are in stereo.
Big difference.
what does having 3 loops allow for?

How do you know they are stereo loops? I haven't seen any specific information on the loops other than the specs and the demo. Maybe I missed it in there somewhere. Are the loop outputs actually TRS?
EDIT -
Nevermind.. I went back to the product page on Boss site and it says it there plain as day on the front page.

Ever noticed how BOSS processors are turning pretty similar to Rocktrons??
For example, Rocktron introduced the Dynamic Switching a while ago, and the GT-PRO looks A LOT like the Prophesy, only a little more versatile. To me it's all good, at least they are going with concepts that already have demonstrated their efficiency.

Again - www.musiciansbuy.com is selling the GT-Pro for 750 - At their site it states it will be shipping in March......ugh.
what does having 3 loops allow for?
For example, you can connect two preamps/effect processors in the loops, and decision which one is on in specific program. I have one SansAmp preamp which sounds a cool dist and a ADA preamp which sings a warm tube clean, in the past it is almost impossible to combine them on my racks system. Now, I guess if I get the GT-PRO, I can do it without any problem...
does that mean if you have external pedals, you can choose where they go in the chain, or not?
I think so. and, in each program, u can place it in any order of the chain as u wish.

And no more touching your toes to tweek it........... :P
Well, with such a price ($750, and u have to buy a foot controller), we really wanna ask for more... :P
I must say ive had a look at the specs on the boss website and it seems lilke a heavyweight bit of kit :) retailing in the UK at approx £650, and then foot controllers on top of that i cant really justify the cash for it.
Ive had the GT6 now for about a year , but have just mainly used it for effects , im no longer in a band so have started to play around with all the pre amp stuff now and have still not figured out everything it has to offer, the GT6 will keep me happy for the time being. Maybey ill take a look when the price comes down .

Soon as you say rack gear....gives them the license to quadruple the price!!!! :P :P :P
Who needs an expensive rack gear when u can get an inexpensive all-in-one gear that can offer more or less the same functions...

Yeah, I am kinda thinking of goingfor the GT-8 instead of Pro, due to money reasons..sides, three stereo FX loops is great, I don't mind the idea at all...however, that's just alot of extra icing on an already good cake for me..cause I tried the GT-6 already adn it was kick ass, and if the GT-8 hadn't come into existance yet, I would have already bought the GT-6. However, the idea of a seperate compressor turns me on tone wise... =)

Seems very sweet, but the next processor I buy has got to be 100% digital aliasing free... I know it is prop]bably not going to happen with non-analog stuff, but till then, I got my GT-6.
Hi Stargazer, I never own a EMG pickup, does it really really good?
PS: I have in fact got some DiMarzio pickups (ie. Super 3, Evolution, PAF Pro) installed on my guitars...

Hmmm...and the next valve (tube) amp I buy has got to me 100% free of noise, hum, microphonics, wolf tones, and all that other stuff you get from applying too much gain.

HEHEHHEHE..... :P
As I have got my noise gate in my rack, the noise problem never bothers me. In fact, I enjoy my Gibson's pickips very much. But I was impressed by Zakk's EMG (his LP custom?) sound, and wonder would it be nice to have it installed on my Les Paul Custom...
By the way, Gibson has a new invention that allows "six strings of Separation", Gibson goes digital...

Sir:
The EMG 81 is great for heavyly distorted sounds, gives you great harmonics, has no noise... It wil not give you some natural tones, if that's what you are looking for...
Nik: The problem I have is with the Level, not the Gain... If I set the gain to, let's say... 25 on the 5150 preamp I still get digital aliasing... I have given up on this...
