Is there something going on that I don't know about?
I've been wanting to get a GT-8 off of ebay because I'm unhappy with my Pod XT Live and I don't want to drop $400 for a new one at GC.
It seemed this past week that there was a rash of GT-8's for sale on ebay. Maybe I just wasn't noticing them before and there's always a dozen used ones for sale on any given week.
I just thought it strange and maybe people are trying to unload them because there's something better in the works or out there already :P

There's always a good number of GT-8's on ebay. Nothing exceptional is on the horizon to anyone's knowledge here.

When i purchased mine from ebay there was plenty to choose from, and i made sure to order from someone who had a good rating. I ended up getting a sweet deal and a nice unit to boot:)

Can we get this phrase 'stickied'? ;-)
It's so true, Mr Nutter...and it can't be any other way...even if we all had the same kit. Keep on twiddling!

Maybe the rush you're seeing is due to the release of the new Line 6 Pod X3 that is going to happen in a few weeks from now. If you haven't read about the "official rumour", go to the line 6 forums at www.line6.com (in the support section).
It seems that the new Pod is going to have the same algorithms than the POD XT, but it is going to have two processors to do two amps at once, and a configurable FX chain. I sold my POD XT for the GT8, so I have not rush in buying the new Pod just because it can do what the GT8 could do two years ago ;-). It's going to have Bass and vocals inputs and fx/amps too.
Line 6 is releasing a Spider amp too, with tubes in it, in collaboration with Bogner. THAT sounds very interesting. Let's see what they release.

I watched ebay for a while from this side of the pond and there were always quite a few GT8s for sale. I actually bought one myself two weeks ago, but in the end did a good deal with a local store for a new one for not much more than most were going for on ebay. I felt the three year guarantee from Roland and the support (if needed) of a very good and well-known music store in these parts was worth just a few extra pounds.
You do need to invest some time into learning the GT8, but it’s worth it. I’m already very pleased with the investment and enjoying playing through it with some very pleasing results in the studio.

i was hopeing it was going to be the answer to my uselessness when it comes to getting the sounds i want, i hoped it would be a magic fix and i would have the good sounds i hear lots of other people getting from it, just my luck that a patch that sounds good on one perons gear sounds totaly different on different gear :D think iv tried it about twice since i got it, maybee one day i'll decide to get it out and see how it works, either that or i'll tell my mrs to figure it out for me :D

I might be talking out of my hat, but I see a separation between 'tone' and 'effects'. The 'tone' bit (for me) is where things get fiddly and subjective: EQ, tone modifier, overdrive, preamp, custom cabs, etc...I didn't enjoy it much but I had most rewards by going my own way and starting from an initialized patch where all the preamps sounded most neutral. The 'effects' bit is just like twiddling individual stomps...piece of p!ss...and borrowing other people's settings is very effective.
Things changed for me when I replaced all the 'tone' stuff with a Tech21 TriAC in the loop. You can get great results with the GT-8 alone...but this just saved me a lot of twiddling, n.b. I sacrifice stuff like dual-preamps here...it might be something to think about.
