I have a ticky problem that has been keeping me up late for 3 days-Pleeeeaaass CAN U HELP!!!!

I am using my GT-5 to send mid i#CC controller messages to CUBASE - I can record any CC number oK (from the MIDI util menu) - and I can control my keyboard both live and from sequencer playback (pitch bend - Vol etc)
BUT what I really want is to record the CC data from the GT-5 built in EXP pedal and then play it back to the GT-5 to control THE RINGMOD TUNE parameter!!!!

I have the EXP pedal set to vary this param stored on a patch-
I have tried using number CC 11 (EXPRESSION CONTROLLER) hoping it would vary whatever the EXP pedal is set to on the patch but the GT-5 is not responding- midi messages ARE being sent ok.
I have also some CONTROL ASSIGNs on the patch BUT I use the first one for the built in EXP PEDAL to control the RM TUNE - shouldn't this be controlled by CC No 11 as the EXP CC for the patch???
Q. Do i need a CC number specifically for this parameter OR do i do it by proxy by controlling a generic EXP param or ASSIGN param for the patch??
Q. do i need any midi trigger or note on/off info to TRIGGER the IPD ASSIGN
Q. Should I set up the RM TUNE on a numbered ASSIGN rather than on the BUILT IN EXP
Q. I also have a list of TARGET ASSIGN numbers for the pedal ASSIGNs (see midi implimentation page 13)- RM TUNE is listed as 53 (hex) = 83 (dec) I have tried 83 but no good
I guess these are NOT CC numbers but IPD TARGET numbers- there must be a mapping to CC???
Q I notice that the CC chart on page 120 of the setup guide has a number of multi purpose controllers - could some of these be for the first 4 pedal assigns of the patch ( EXP-CONTROL - EXT 1-EXT 2)??
Q. Is there a more detailed explaination of these CC params for the GT-5??
Q.WhyThe**** am I doing this . . . coz distorted Hammond organ Thru COMP/PRE/OD/RM/DELAY is totally "Forbidden planet" awesome!!! - and I use GT-5 for studio efx a lot so recording CC is a must have item.
Q. Is there a way to get the GT-5 to flash a MIDI in indicator light so i can check it's recieving midi data??? I dont think I'm getting any CC response on the GT-5- tried recording/playback of lots of numbers to test VOL PAN etc but nothing.
