I'm looking to do a direct trade. I'll throw in a M-Audio Uno & Boss FS-6 as well. The GT-8 has never left my bedroom, and I have been gentle with it. I still have the original box, but the manual is a little beat up. I live in Southern California, so I can do a local trade if someone lives close by. We can also discuss shipping options.

What is the reason for the change?

To be honest, I just can't find a distortion sound I like. I like the effects on the GT-8, but the distortion is a show stopper for me. I can't afford a Harmonic Converger, or a separate preamp, and my amp's distortion sucks. Thus, the trade.

What kind of distortion do you like? There are some fantastic patches on this site for just about any kind of sound.

I'm looking for a metal type of distortion, like Slipknot, Devil Driver, or Fear Factory. I came close when I used my Digitech Grunge pedal with a boss EQ pedal in the GT-8's loop, but not close enough. I've tried just about every patch I could find on this site, and nothing comes close to the sound I'm looking for. Beleive me, if I could find or have the ability to make a patch that gives me the distortion I'm looking for, I'd keep my GT-8. The distortion is the only thing I don't like about my GT-8.

Have you used a POD XT before? Do you know it will get you what you want? If it does, then it sounds like that might be the better unit for you.

Yes, I've used the PodXT Live a few times recently. I was able to find the type of distortion I liked right away. I'll admit, I'll miss the flexibilty of the GT-8, but I'd rather have a core sound that I like. If I had the money, I'd just buy a PodXT and run it in the GT-8's loop. But I can't afford to buy a PodXT or PodXT Live anytime in near future.

I hear ya. Well, sounds like the POD is what you need. They're all just tools anyway and you gotta use what tool fits the job.

I'm also willing to sell it. I'm thinking $375 with the M-Audio Uno & the Boss FS-6 included. Depending on where you are located, I could also pay for shipping. I'll also accept local pickup if you happen to live close by (Southern California).

I'm having second thoughts on selling and/or trading. As much as I can't stand the distortion, I do love the effects & flexibility. Does anyone have any ideas for a cheap 3rd party (Non GT-8) solutions for good heavy metal distortion. I guess I should of asked this question before, but I guess I was too frustrated with the GT-8.

Maybe you should try a Sansamp TRIAC.

Cheers,

I will definitely check it out. I tried out a Boss Metal Zone today, and I have to say that I loved the sounds I was getting. I used a Boss EQ pedal after the Metal Zone into a solid state amp. The Metal Zone sim in the GT-8 is nowhere near this (i read a few threads here that confirms this). I'm still trying out other stuff and I am open to other suggestions. To be honest, I have to stay under $100 as my budget is extremely tight. Thank you all in advance for any other suggestions you might have.

Try to get a 2nd hand HC or maybe better boorow one and find out if it gives you the right tone.

If you are considering the Pod XT live try to boorow one for a few days and after the usual honeymoonperiod (that you also may have had with your gt-8)

buy and/or keep what best suits you or try to save for it.

Good luck

I think I know what I'm going to do now. I think I'm going to sell some of my other stuff instead of my GT-8, buy a Peavey Valveking 112 and Boss Metal Zone, and use the GT-8 for effects only. So maybe I should start another thread to sell my Ibanez RG320DXQM.

I am having the exact same problem with my 8, I want slipknot but cant get it lol, I've tried and tried. Did you settle of the metal zone? if so what sort of tones are you getting? Iowa or Subliminal Verses? I also went to a shop to try an xtlive since ive heard their more suited to metal. Anyway how did it go? settle on the metal zone or something else?

Well, I ended up getting the PodXT Live. I can get both Iowa AND Subliminal Verses sounds out of this thing. Funny story though, the guy who was going to buy my GT-8 backed out, so now I have both the PodXT Live & the GT-8. Now I have the best of both worlds. I guess I could run the PodXT Live in the GT-8's loop. Needless to say, I love the metal tones I'm getting from the Pod. When I get time, I'll post some samples for you to hear.

I'll post it as soon as I can figure out which Slipknot song to demo. Is there a song in particular you would like to hear me play a sample of? Let me know.

Something off of Subliminal Versus would be nice, Blister exists, maybe or Duality or even pulse of the maggots... one of my fav :)

I would really like to hear something from subliminal versus, cos for me it's the tone I cant get from the gt8, Iowa seems to be not quite as hard to dial in.

Thanks for your help and effort, BTW Slipknot are a sic band :)

Yeah, slipknot is a sic band. Funny thing though; Slipknot is one of my mom's favorite bands.... She's got good taste. My kids are in bed right now, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow after I get off of work to record a clip for you to hear.
