On the heels of my recent success with a GT-8 through a FRFR system, I'm wondering what your experiences have been with using a GT-6B in this manner...

Mrs. TDD plays bass in a rock band. The band plays shows in venues that have big house PAs - the sound guy always takes a direct feed from her amp and she uses her bass rig only as a stage monitor. She uses the same rig at rehearsals - no DI in that situation, but the volumes are lower. She plays a 4-string bass in standard tuning. I think she drops the low E to D for one song.

Mrs. TDD's current rig - a 200 watt Eden Nemesis 1x15 combo - is a bear to transport. The cab is basically a big cube that just fits through a doorway. It's loud enough, but way too big physically.

She runs a bit of distortion (MXR Blowtorch, set low) and compression (Aphex Punch Factory) most of the time, and wouldn't mind having some more effects to play with when they'd fit the context of the song.

I'm thinking about suggesting that she replace her rig with a GT-6B and a powered speaker - something like a JBL EON 15 G2, Mackie SRM450 or Yorkville NX55P. The powered speaker would be easier to carry, for sure. The real question is: are these speakers robust enough to use as a stage monitor for bass?

i don't know how long the powered speakers would last as a bass monitor..
but the main issue would be the pre-amp ability to have enough gain for a bass/guitar input signal. The Gt-6B would certainly be an invaluable addition to a bass rig, it also has a stereo D.I built in for conection direct to a mixing desk. You might want to concider doing a chop job on the existing combo, to reduce it's size/weight to a floor wedge, at least you will still have EQ & preamp controls at hand.

Thanks for the reply. One of my friends who's been researching bass cab construction expressed similar doubts about the powered speakers' ability to handle low bass at high volumes. We decided to replace the Eden Nemesis with an easier-to-carry bass amp.
