I have been through some of the forum here and am very impressed with some of the sound quality coming through our machines. I am faced with a decision to make in the near future having to do with a studio recording. We will be using a protools setup and i'm just wondering if I should run digital out from the gt-6 to the computer or mic an old tube amp that i have, run through a board and then into the computer. Also when recording in the studio I'm faced with the question as to run the effects right off the gt-6 ( i am skilled in using it as I play live shows 3 times a week) or just run clean or distortion sounds wherever desired and then do the delay/reverb/chorus effects after when mixing. I am a true Newb and would appreciate some feedback from the members of the forum.

I think the answers to a lot of your questions are matters of opinion. If it were me I would most definately use the gt effects, rather than add them later (except for 'verb maybe). I would probably also record direct ... the deciding factors there would be 1- how good is the amp, 2- how good is the person micing the amp. Micing an amp can be a bitch sometimes. One option might be to double track ... one with the amp, and one with the gt --- then you can decide in mixing which one to keep, or even use them together
