View Full Version : Troubleshooting feedback

Greetings. First Post - Just got the GT-6B and am having an issue which I'll describe as best as possible.

I dial in to a patch and will play it for a while until the volume decreases and what can be described as a low, but loud feedback while come through. This does not decrease as I turn down the volume in the guitar (I use both an active and a passive bass) - when the volume is all the way down, the "feedback" goes away - it is either on or off. Changing patches does not do anything - the "feedback" is there. Going in to bypass works but returning out of bypass - the same. If I reboot my amp, this "fixes" things but the issue can return after playing a couple of songs.

I am hooked up thus: guitar1/guitar2>>>2-1 switch>>>korg tuner>>>GT-6B>>>Mono L Output (non-XLR) to Amp.

Could this be a possible defective unit? I am running some other tests (i.e. - xlr out to mixer to power amp) and removing the korg and the 2-way - but I don't believe the issue to lie there. I have replaced the cords.

Any suggestions? Is there a tech support number at Roland/Boss (there is no number in the manual)? This is a brand new unit.

Thanks all!

"Reboot my amp"... What kind of amp is it?

Check your levels, the level on the back should be set fairly low (I set mine at the mid position at most when playing with my amp and at the mid position always for direct recording).

Also check the levels on your amp. It could be an electrical problem also.

Please describe your setup and how do you connect everything (what method do you use to connect to your amp) and the levels too, that way we can help you narrow the possible causes.

"reboot" = power cycle. The amp is a Peavey SessionBass. The hookups are indicated in my originial post, however, I'll gladly retype:

Guitar>>>2-way switch>>>Korg Tuner>>>>GT-6B>>>Amp

I'm not using the XLRs into the board since I get terrible sound for some reason out of the amp - this is not my concern at the momement. I'm going straight into the amp.

It has been brought to my attention that this could be induced by poor power mgmt (ie. ungrounded outlets) - this maybe why I can't duplicate this @ home and could've been due to pwr at the gig.

For now, there's not much I can say other than it's not happening at the moment. I'll keep monitoring and if it crops up, I'll let this board know what I did to resolve.

Thanks
