View Full Version : How do you assign MIDI CC#'s to individual GT Pro efx?

I have a DMC Ground Control Pro for my MIDI controlling. I have set the controller up with Instant Access clickers (eight of them), and they all send CC#'s (CC001, CC002, and so on).
My question is.....I don't know how to set up the GT Pro to listen to those CC numbers (CC001 = Delay, CC002 = OD, CC003 = Reverb, and so on).
MIDI questions are boring I know, but any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

You need to go into the Assign menus, preferably via the GT Pro editor because the editor is more intuitive and quicker.
For each of the 12 assigns, there's:
TARGET - this is the parameter you're going to control
MIN: This is the minimum, or starting value of the parameter you're affecting. What this is will change based upon the Target you selected.
MAX: This is the maximum, or end value of the parameter you're affecting. Again, what this is will change based upon the Target you selected. MIN and MAX together set the range of the parameter you are affecting.
SOURCE: This is where you actually specify the CC (Control Change) value that will trigger the Assign.
SOURCE MODE: Select Toggle for parameters you want to turn on and off (e.g. turning your Distortion module on and off) or switch between (Preamp Channel A and B). Select Normal if you are using an expression pedal or want to have a footswitch only work when you are pressing it down.
SOURCE ACT. RANGE LO/HI - You only need to adjust these values if you are using an expression pedal as a controller. If you are, this setting allows you to tweak the the effective range of the expression pedal.
One final note - I would not recommend assigning CC#7 to any of your button pedals. CC#7 is reserved for Volume. There are a lot of presets have CC#7 assigned to Foot Volume. If you have a button assigned to this number, when you call up the patch the GT Pro will look at the current value of this parameter from your controller and because it's a button that is at it's MIN range (off or zero), you won't get any volume out of the preset until you either modify the assign in the patch or press and hold down the button. Dealing with the this in the editor is a lot easier to understand than doing it directly on the GT Pro.

Matt B,
Thanks so much for answering this question. I've been trying to do the same thing for awhile now. I followed your post and everything worked great, except.... When I push button (on the foot controller), the effect turns on like it should; but, to turn it off, I have to push the button twice. Then, to turn it back on, I have to push it two more times, etc. Every on/off switch takes two presses except for the first one.
I'm using an Art X-15 foot controller. Do you know if this problem is a compatibility issue?

Eric,
In the assigns, try setting the mode from toggle to normal.
Hope this helps!

Hey markhat250,
I've just got a GT-Pro and the Ground Control Pro too. Have you managed to get 'transmit with program change' to with with the Instant Access Clickers? I don't seem to be able to.
What I want, when I change patch, say to a reverb patch. I want to turn off reverb on the GT-Pro but the GCP to automatically turn it on when I select a patch.
At the moment, I've had to turn it on in the GT-Pro and use the Instant Access to turn it off (but the light shins - which should really show the effect as being on, not off) - does that make any sense?
Cheers,

I have a FCB1010 and as rarj60, I had to set my assigns mode to "Normal" to eliminate the double hit.
Also had to do some funky double CC# setup for tap temp too.

Hey - thanks for the reply
Voodoolabs support helped me out. What's not mentioned in the GCP manual is that for a 'transmit on patch change' to work you need to enable the the Instant Access button in question, edit the patch and just save the patch. Then it will work.
Not mentioned in the manual though, dur.

I also own the Ground Control and I'm using it with my GT Pro. I have two questions:
1. Is there any way to do global assigns for all of my patches rather than having to adjust each patch? For now I simply need my 8 switches to toggle on/off the same effects, so I'm keeping effects at the same location points for easy memory (i.e. OD on 1, Chorus on 2, etc).
2. Specifically for Ground Control users: I know you can name your presets on the Ground Control, but I already named my patches in the GT Pro by song title and I am always revising the patch/song order to correspond to my set lists for each performance. (I use the Boss Librarian software to revise the song order before each show). Is there any way to load the song title information automatically from the GT Pro to the Ground Control so that I can advance songs in my assigned ascending/descending order? Right now the preset patch numbers are corresponding to the GT Pro's, but the Ground Control doesn't display the already assigned patch name (all presets are named, "Init"). Giving the presets names in the Ground Control doesn't help me, as I mentioned song orders are constantly changing (and therefore getting new patch numbers assigned to them) and the names displayed won't match up with the GT Pro's. Help?

Hey,
1) That's more down to how you program your GTPro than the GCP
If you make one patch in the GCP and then copy it to other locations, each instant button will send the same cc# within each patch.
If you have each patch in the GTPro to have the same cc# assignments, then the answer is yes.
2) I don't think the GTPro and GCP can communicate with each other on that level. Perhaps the new FC300 will?

I don't know of a way to apply an assign to every patch, but what I did when I converted my patches from my GT-8 was to create quick assigns for the various standard stomps. Then it's pretty quick job to go thru each patch and apply the various quick assigns. But I only had about 20 patches.

Does the GC have a librarian type function? i.e. Maybe it'd be better to do the set list programming on the GC rather than the other way around. Keep the patches static on the Pro and just move patches around on the GC which can already be named.
Hope this helps

Unfortunately, there is no librarian for the GC. I bought it specifically for the alpha display, as I know my patches by song name not numbers, but I'm surprised that it's not capable of receiving song title info via midi when it receives all other patch specifics. Does the Roland FC300 have an alpha display and is it capable of doing what I need it to do? I can't believe I'm the only guitarist desiring this capability, unless I'm missing something. The only other alpha controller I've found is the Rocktron All Access, but at $800 it's out of my reach (and I'm not sure it can do it either).
