Check this out.....

Is this just Sweetwater, or did Boss drop the price?

I know Digitech and Line 6 have used this same type of marketing before. This would rule because the used/ebay market would surley follow.

Sweetwater and American Musical Supply are the only 2 big retailers who have this price advertised. Sam Ash is still $845. Musician's Friend has blems/floor models (Scratch and Dent as they call it) for $760.

I just got mine in yesterday from Sweetwater and it was factory sealed. I always buy my stuff from them anyway because they're close to me. I can get gear from them next day without paying for extra shipping.

I'm betting that Roland had some deal at summer NAMM that some dealers, like Sweetwater, bought into. I've been to NAMM before and deals are cut like that all the time. It's unusual for dealers like Ash and MF to not have competitive prices with Sweetwater.

The new price point was the trigger for me.

Thomann has also lowered the price a bit for us Europeans,i think its Roland that lowered their price actually.

About two months ago I couldn't find anywhere in the UK that would lower their price to anywhere near Thomanns, except for Eddie Moors Music in Bournemouth. I couldn't believe that they were the only UK supplier who were trying to compete. I managed to get a GT-Pro, a Roland FC-200 and an 8U ABS rack case for £780. Not bad, especially with Roland/Boss prices in the UK.

£780 would be about the same as at least i would pay at Thomann for that equipment,so its not bad at all, your VAT is lower than ours,we pay 25% and you 17.5% (according to Thomann at least) so that affects the price a bit also.

Ive seen that Roland here in Sweden advertised on their site a while ago that the price on the GT-pro would be lowered,it didnt say what the price would be though.

Ive heard that it may only be temporary coz they have to comply to the RoHS environmental directive with lead free soldering and therfore probably will have to sell all of the units that were produced with lead in a certain time ,but its hard to see that the price would really go up after that,i mean new things come out on the market all the time and if you want to sell you have to compete.

With that said i do think that the GT-pro have a very competitive price considering the buildquality and the vast possibilities that come with the unit.

I've done quite a bit of googling and surfing to find a decent
price on the GT-Pro in Canada. I couldn't find any online
music stores in Canada which post prices on Roland/Boss
gear unfortunately, claiming that Roland does not permit
them to.

Oddly enough, almost every music store online in the USA
and elsewhere _do_ post prices on Roland gear however,
and after getting a few telephone based quotes in Canada
including tax and shipping in the neighbourhood of
$1150 CAD, I decided it might be much better to buy from
the US instead.

I found the following online music stores in the US selling
the GT-Pro for $699 brand new, with free shipping, and
some of them have pre-opened boxes for $599 as well:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GTPro/print
http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--BOSGTPRO

All sites seem to have the same price on a brand new factory
sealed box, and all seem to have free shipping too (although
I haven't confirmed if the free shipping reaches Canada or
not yet).

Another factor I'm considering, is their store policies, such
as money-back guarantee timelines, customer satisfaction
policies, and pricematching, etc.

One site I found (I don't remember which, but it would not be
hard to find again), had the GT-Pro listed for $845 with a
guarantee they would match any other online competitor's
price, and that if you'd already purchased it from them, they
would refund you 110% the difference. I was considering
buying the GT-Pro from them, then after receiving it, telling
them I found it for $699 at one of the above competitors and
getting 110% the difference back. ;o) That'd only save an
extra $20 though, so probably not worth the effort, but I was
in a coniving sort of mood when I thought of it. ;o)

Anyhow, if anyone has any good or bad stories about any
of the above online retailers, please share them as I think
I will be making my purchase very very soon.

Thanks in advance.

I've been buying my gear from Sweetwater lately and they are fantastic. Their customer service is outstanding. I've even received follow up calls after the sale to make sure everything was going well with the gear I received.

My only problem with Sweetwater is that they do not show whether an item is in stock or not. I f you notice, all of the other listed sites have the new price but no units in stock.

Well although it would be good if they did,its not that hard to ask is it ?  .

Well, that's easy. When you want to place an order, just call them and ask them if an item is in stock. Heck, my sales rep tells me when I place the order.

That's another cool thing about Sweetwater. You get assigned a sales rep so you always deal with the same person every time. It makes subsequent sales so much smoother and faster.

That's OK if you call when the guy is there. However, what if I don't want the wife to hear me buying another 1K of gear over the phone?

American Musical Supply sells a new GT-Pro for $699 + a free year of warranty above the Boss warranty! I e-mailed Musician's Friend for a price match. They say they'll have to investigate further before they price match!! 8O

For Canadians who would be interested in buying a GT-Pro online, check this site out:
http://www.music123.com

They sell it for 699$US plus an extra shipping of 19.99 for Canada.
I am interested, but I am still hesitating between the pro and gt-8.
Pro is still very expansive!
