I hope that tommorro my new Roland GR-20 turns up (that's a delivery debarkle in itself:icon15:), and does what i hope it will do.
Until it does arrive, are there any GT owners who also use the GR-20 guitar/bass synth with their GT, how do you hook it all together, do you midi the GT & GR to follow the same patches? Do you run only the guitar/bass into the GT or the synth output as well?
If anyone wants to share some thoughts, much appeciated...:smile:

Well i just got my Roland GR-20 Guitar/Bass Synthesizer and OMG !! it rocks.
First thing when connecting the GT-10B midi out to the GR-20 midi in, is on the GT-10B,
disable the EXP1 pedal CC# data output. It causes the GR-20 volume to operate, and the GR-20 already has an EXP pedal for this.

Here is some detail on exactly how i have these two devices hooked up..

Bass > GK 13pin cable > GR-20 13pin GK input (sends GK hex pickup signals and bass normal pickups signals all in one 'GK' cable)
GR20 Guitar Out > GT-10B Input (dry normal bass pickups signal)
GR-20 OUTPUT R (MONO) > GT-10B S/R Loop Return (GR-20 Synth output fed back into the GT-10B channel B chain path)
GT-10B Midi-Out > GR-20 Midi-In (allows the GR-20 patches to track with GT-10B patch changes)
GT-10B OUTPUT L & R > Stereo P.A. system

That is the cable hookup...
The GT-10B setup is the EXP1 Pedal Midi Output is 'OFF' (in the SYSTEM > MIDI settings), to stop the GR-20 volume from being controlled by the EXP1 Pedal via the midi cable, we want to control the GR-20 output via Channel B Level instead.
The S/R Loop is enabled for all the first 100 user patches (U1:1 to U25:4) and the loop Return Level is varied around '30~40' depending on the synth patch. The S/R loop Send is not used.
The S/R loop is placed in the beginning of Channel Path 'B' in the signal chain. In the case of using a GT-10 (not B) the S/R loop is placed just before PreAmp B, so the channel level can be controlled.
Any unused effects for the channel A instrument are placed into channel B path, so the effect can be applied to the Guitar Synth.

Only the first 100 GT-10B patches are used because the GR-20 only has 99 user patches, if you were to use more GT-10B patches, the GR-20 would cycle back to patch 1 after every 100 GT-10B patches.

Hi,

Here's the detail on my setup. By default the GR-09 will mix the guitar/synth through the main output... Unless you use the guitar out output. Then the GR-09 split both signals.

For my non-GK guitars
Guitar -> Cable -> (Behringer) AB100 In 1

For my GK guitar
Guitar -> GK Cable -> GR 09 GK In -> GR 09 Guitar Out -> AB100 In 2
GR-09 Output -> RC-50 Aux In

AB100 Out -> GT-10 In -> GT-10 Send -> JC-90 In -> JC-90 Send -> GT-10 Return -> GT-10 Output -> (Behringer) UB1004 Input 5/6

For my non-GK Bass (no S/R here).
Bass -> Cable -> GT-10B In -> GT-10B Output -> UB1004 (Behringer) Input 3/4

The mixdown
UB1004 Main Output -> RC-50 Input
RC-50 Main Output -> JC-90 Return (allows me to use the RC-50 main mix to control volume on the JC-90 return)
UB1004 Control Room -> FA-101 Input 5&6 (allows me to use the control room volume to compensate from -10dbu to +4dbu)
RC-50 Aux Output -> FA-101 Input 7&8 (use the FA-101 volume boost to compensate from -10dbu to +4dbu)

Midi Now ;)
GR-09 In/Out -> Emu 2x2 In/Out 2
RC-50 Out -> GT-10 In
GT-10 Out -> Emu 2x2 In 1
Emu 2x2 Out -> GT-10 In

Unfortunately, the GT-10 does not have a midi/thru... otherwhise I would have done that

RC-50 Out -> GT-10 In -> GT-10 Out -> GT-10B In -> GT-10B Out -> Emu In 1 - Emu Out 1 -> RC-50 In
GR-09 Out -> Emu In 2 -> Emu Out 2 -> GR-09 In.

The RC-50 tempo is then synchronized to the GT-10. A midi splitter would do fine with the GT-10 and GT-10b ;)

This setup allow me to jam with the RC-50 with both guitar/bass/gsynth. Allow me to use both GK-enabled and non-GK guitars without disconnecting anything. Mix can be done on the fly since everything except the FA-101 is on my three-parts home-made pedal boards ;) I can record both with the RC-50 (w/out computer + looping) and FA-101 (w/ computer and looping).

I've got to be careful with the bass getting out on the JC-90...

Since I've got this setup, I no longer play with cables anymore. And the three-parts pedal board can be easily detachable as required.
