Here we go...

We all know the honkey Cocked Wah un-dynamic distortion sounds of the
GT-10 don't we?

The nature of the problem lies down in how the GT-10 clips the sound,
WHERE it is doing it an and WHAT Frequency clipped first.
For example if we boost bass before the distortion we get "mushy" "fuzzy"
sound, if we cut Bass & boost Highs before we get "Tight" "glassy" "Marshally"
distortion sound.

BUT the GT-10 has its pre-distortion-eq somewhere BETWEEN gain stages.
So no matter what we do with Pre & Post EQ the "honk" does NOT go away.
Now doesn't it makes you want to throw your GT-10 across the room?

Worry not my dear guitar players.
For I have found the magical solution!
It came to me in a vision... :) No.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Solution:

Output: Line/Phones -> FX loop Return (of my amp).

Put the CUSTOM "JC Clean" in the pre amp section.
set its custom parameters:
Bass Freq : +50
Tre Freq : -50

Set the gain to 110
Set the gain switch to High.
Eq's on 50 (for starters)
Presence on 0
bright switch Off
Level on 50
Speaker sims Off

*The preamp EQ section is now you PRE-distortion EQ.
Play with it to alter the Distortion response.
(cut bass for tighter distortion).
(cut high to remove some honk).
(boost bass & cut mids for losser distortion) (Boogie like).
(cut mids, cut bass, boost highs for Marshall like tones)
*I like - bass 50, mids 70, highs 30.

Now put the EQ block After the Preamp.
Play with Gains to tweek the EQ like on the real amp.

Set it like so (for Real amp response):
Low Cut : 200hz (Flat for Mesa/Modern amps)
Low Gain : 0dB
Lo-Mid f : 630Hz (800Hz for Mesa/Modern amps)
Lo-Mid Q : 1
Lo-Mid G : 0
Hi-Mid f : 1.60kHz
Hi-Mid Q : 0.5
Hi-Mid G : 0dB
High Gain : 0dB
High Cut : Flat
Level : 0dB

"Low Gain" is your BASS control
"Lo-Mid G" is your MIDS control
"Hi-Mid G" is your HIGHS control
"High Gain" is your PRESENCE control

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conclusion:

So... As you can see its a radical way out of the GT-10's "mistakes" with the
high gain stuff, but it works like a charm (cause it came to me in a dream:wink:)
Even more so, it sound Better than my All tube preamp.

The "JC Clean" sounds more tube like than any other amp when it clips.
So we can "take its benefits and run".

Hope you at least give it a try.

*Notes
I use this setting through my Tube amp FX Return 4x6L6 into Framus 2x12
loaded with Celestion v30's speakers.
The point was to make the GT-10 preamps sound better than the tube amps.

Play, Tweak & Enjoy your souls.

Cheers.

Hello Ilya, How do you connect your GT-10 ? In the input of the guitar amp or in the return (bypassing the guitars amp's preamp) ?

FX loop return of my amp.

It's Peavey Valveking 100W Tube amp.

The point was to emulate a better preamp.
And I succeeded...

look at the first post I've Edited it and added new stuff.

Hurray :horns::icon_mrgreen:

I must be missing something...where is the distortion coming from if you have a clean amp (JC120) as the preamp?

Gee, thanks for the totally useless answer...sheesh. I think I'll put as much time into "TRYING" as you did into posting requested sound samples.

Set the gain to 110
Set the gain switch to High.

That should get your distortion.
