Hi,

Is there anyway I can edit patches in real time from my computer?

Thanks,

Carl

Download GT Manager by Partheus Software. It's the only realtime editing software that I know of currently. Go to the downloads>utilities section of this site for a 30 day trial version.
I'm sure that Emagic Sounddiver will be updated to cater for the GT6 at some point, as it currently supports the GT3 and GT5, although I must say that I'm very surprised that the Roland Corporation haven't developed their own software for this purpose. Digitech, Behringer and Line 6 all have editing software included with their respective amp modellors and I've used every one of them and found them all to be absolutely awesome. Hopefully Roland/Boss will see the demand for this, get with the future and do something, although, I do happen to know that Partheus Software are currently working on a major upgrade to their GT Manager Software, so look out for that when it becomes available.

You will have to dump your program from the GT6 to the GT Manager first. Here's how..................

I'm presuming that you already have your GT6 connected to your PC via MIDI, MIDI out of GT to MIDI in of your PC interface and then MIDI in of your GT to the MIDI out of your PC interface.

Then, click on File>Load from GT3/5/6
Once you have done this, press the utility button on the GT6 and then press the right parameter button until you come to bulk dump screen. You can select to transfer anything from one program, to several, to all. The first time you do it, I would dump the whole lot (for backup purposes).

So, for this, the dump screen should read System>Temp. When you're ready to start the transfer, press "write" on the GT6. You wil then see the "bytes received" counter incrementing in GT Manager as your files transfer. It will take a couple of minutes to do the lot.

When its finished, a matrix of all your patches will appear on the GT Manager screen. Just double click on one of them to open it for editing. Then click on File>Save to store your changes. If your GT6 is still connected via MIDI, the changes will affect the GT6 in real time, so you can simply press the write button on the GT6 if you want to instantly save it as a GT preset.

I hope this answers your question,

TeeJay

thanx teejay,

You are alway great help to GT community.
I was going to ask same question that you answered. This is first time using gt-6 hook up to my computer. One more question that i have is if midi is hook up to gt-6---> to my guitar, would i hear sound coming through pc speakers. Since I have Fender blue deville 2x12 tube amp, which is known for extra loudness, volume 1 to 2 will make alarm go off from another block, I will like to just make it come out from my pc speakers.

Thank you in advance
Christopher

I wonder if the GT Manager software is a once off registration fee you buy or if they makes you register again if they bring a whole new build of the software out?

Ciao ...

To answer your question Christopher;

MIDI only transfers data, not audio. For you to hear your GT6 through your PC speakers, you will need to run a cable from the left output of the GT6 to the Mic input on your PC's soundcard. Better still is if your PC has SPDIF (digital coaxial), for which you would need a special cable. It looks like a regular RCA cable but is capable of transferring a 24 bit signal. You will need to run this from the digital out of the GT6 to the digital input on your soundcard.
Just note that not all soundcards will have a digital input.

I use either the SPDIF cable, or I hook up the headphone output on the GT6 to the line in on my soundcard. Either one of these will provide you with a stereo signal to your computer which sounds alot better then mono.

Teejay, are there any benefits going through the left output versus the headphone out jack?!?!

No, I merely stated this method as not all soundcards have a stereo input. If it does, then yes, a stereo cable from the headphone out would be the most appropriate.
