SOS question

I just got the GT-6B today - after reading positive reviews and enjoying a fun demo. I quickly got the hang of using a range of sounds and of creating my on patches.

But, I must be slow regarding the sound on sound funtion. I haven't had success getting it to work - I can't get the red light to come on the 5th (bypass/SOS) pedal - only the green bypass light comes on - I can't get the SOS portion working on the 4th pedal either. I have tried following the manual - but for me it wasn't clear.

I am sure it is easy - can you tell me what I am not doing?
Also I am assuming the SOS allows you to record a riffed and play back over it (so why does it only allow you 3 to 6 seconds - this doesn't sound like enough time). How are you using it?

Hi my english is so bad but i try to explain about SOS function.

Go to patch P1-4 or U1-4 (demon child)

this patch have SOS on.

now... press button BYPASS and play something (no long to 3 seconds)
and press again BYPASS button.

now... press button REV/DLY you can listen what you finish recording.

press again BYPASS button and play another thing. SOund on SOund.

the sounds come add
